Soaring the skies!

We have both decided that Queenstown and area is simply heaven on earth. It has it all, and the fact that the weather (for the most part) has been the best for us yet, doesn't hurt. There are so many things to do here, a girl could go broke! (This is when we will plead to all our friends to buy us food and drinks when we get home because we will be broke!).

Our first stop was to see the delightful mining (as in gold) town of Arrowtown, just 19 km from Queenstown. It is absolutely gorgeous and very quaint. There are so many inticing bars and restaurants in quaint buildings that we felt we should visit them all....but settled for a lamb burger from The Shed. Literally, a shed. And the burger was delicious.

We decided to go for a hike to the top of Crown Terrace, since it would give us a magnificent view of the valley. An easy slog up a hill, not bad except for the 3 H's....heat, humidity and hangover! But the view was certainly worth it, and we did feel marginally better for it.

After a visit to our 2nd ski hill (really, who visits ski hills in the summer??) we came back to Queenstown and set off to jump off the side of the local hill. Everyone else does it, so why shouldn't we? A gondola ride up, a bit of a hike to the top and we were ready to be strapped to our pilots (who were not that cute, much to our disappointment!). Here is a photo of Errin as we made our way down - it was fantastic!!

A good start to our time here, and a bit of a build up to our adventure tomorrow......tune in later for that!

Today we decided to be super fit and did two hikes. The first was to the top of Queenstown Hill, again to check out the view. It was a bit of a slog, as most uphills are, because it was a very hot day today. The next one was to Lake Alta, which is nestled below the Remarkables. An interesting drive up a scary 13.5km gravel road that had a sheer drop on one side (no barriers) got us to the ski hill (No 3) and then we went on our walk. Went the wrong way so we made what should have been a fairly easy walk rather long! Had our picnic lunch up top and watched the clouds roll in just in time for our scary drive back down the road.

Who wouldn't love it here?

Apparently we do!!

Wait for tomorrow's epic....if we are still alive.......

Ciao,

Errin & Joan
